Fatal – Kate loves her life. At 44 she’s happily married to her kind husband, Ron, blessed with two wonderful children, and has a beautiful home in San Francisco. Everything changes, however, when she and Ron attend a dinner party and meet another couple, Peter and Jill. Kate and Peter exchange only a few pleasant words, but that night, in bed with her husband, Kate is suddenly overcome with a burning desire for Peter.
What begins as an innocent crush soon develops into a dangerous obsession, and Kate’s fixation on Peter results in one intense, passionate encounter between the two. Confident that her life can now go back to normal, Kate never considers that Peter may not be so willing to move on.
Not long after their affair, a masked man barges into the café Kate is sitting in with her best friend, firing an assault weapon indiscriminately into the crowd. This tragedy is the first in a series of horrifying events that will show Kate just how grave the consequences of one mistake can be.

After many years of nuptial bliss, Kate Jameson has an itch that needs scratching. Instead of asking her husband Ron to relieve her, she seeks out Peter Ash, a new found acquaintance, and a married man. She goes after him with all the tenacity of a bloodhound.
Peter easily succumbs to Kate’s advances. Once Kate’s itch is scratched she has no trouble discarding him. Out of sight out of mind like… well… That wooden back scratching tool in the bottom of your bedroom drawer. Peter, on the other hand, becomes obsessed and allows his life, marriage, and job to spiral out of control.
Kate Jameson and single cop Beth Tully are close friends having lunch when they are both hurt in the terrorist attack. Months later, Beth is slowly recovering from severe injuries and eager to get back to work. Beth and her partner begin investigating a possible murder that puts her friendship with Kate in jeopardy.
Fatal is an exciting and fast-paced murder mystery, with plenty of twists and surprises filled with characters you’ll love to hate, side stories and characters that build out the plot and give it depth. This is the first book that I’ve listened to from John Lescroart and I know it won’t be my last. I like the way he spins a tale!
Jacques Roy narrates this well-told story and he’s more than up for the task! Jacques is great at conveying the emotions of a scene without going overboard. His pacing is perfect and his voice is particularly well suited for the mystery/suspense genre. The audio and sound production quality was first class.
I look forward to hearing more from both author and narrator, they make a good team. I hope this book is the beginning of a new series!
