Audiobook Review: Tycoon: Katy Evans

Tycoon

Narrator: Elizabeth Louise & Sebastian York

He wasn’t always this rich. This hot. This difficult.
Aaric Christos was a guy who protected me. Wanted me. Maybe even loved me.
That man is gone.
In his place is the most powerful real estate tycoon in the city.
He’s a cold, ruthless, aggressive businessman.
The only one who can save me and my startup from ruin.
It takes every ounce of courage to put my pride aside and ask for his help.
I didn’t expect him to offer it easily.
And he doesn’t.
Instead, he vets me harder than he’s vetted anyone.
Don’t invest in what you don’t know, he says.
He’s assessing every piece of me, to the point I’ve never felt so bare.
I yearn for the boy I once knew, whose touch once craved me.
Putting it all on the line will be worth it, I tell myself.
Until I realize—too late—that some risks are not worth taking.

Elsie’s Rating – ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2

Aaric Christo and Bryn Kelly were once classmates and much more, many years ago. But Bryn was well off and Christo not so much and they were torn apart by circumstances. Now, the shoe is on the other foot and Christo has the world at his feet and Bryn is struggling to get her start up business off the ground and running. Christo is willing to help, but Bryn doesn’t know if she’s willing to pay the price.

I’m kinda middle of the road on this one. There are flashes of brilliance and overall the story did keep my attention. But, I was put off a little by Bryn’s attitude. She asks for help then seems unwilling to take help when it’s legitimately offered. Strings are always attached, no matter who you borrow funds from. Bryn just struck me as a little naive about the workings of business negotiation.

This story has its steamy moments and plenty of angst in this audiobook that slides in at just under 7 hours.

This audiobook is a dual narration by the team of Elizabeth Louise and Sebastian York. No doubt about it these two narrators are in high demand and deservedly so. Their pacing is perfect and they never make a misstep in this outstanding production.

Tycoon was given to me at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.
