Aut Banks is a high school senior, a hard ass, and the teacher’s pet of AP English. But when his sixty-year-old teacher, Mrs. Lovell falls ill, a new substitute teacher, Mrs. Macmillan takes over, and I mean that loosely, The term teacher’s pet takes on a whole new meaning!
Only child Aut Banks was raised by his single mother, never knowing his biological father. That fact has made him grow up fast, but he’s also very smart and he has big plans for his life.
Maise Macmillian, a young wife, is trapped in an abusive, loveless, marriage. Determined to take control of her own life is a beginning. A new job working as a substitute teacher slowly helps her rebuilds her flagging self-esteem. Ironically, Maise takes control only to hand it over to a teenager!
Every time I looked at my TBR book list and saw the title Schooled by a Senior, I wondered why it was on my list. The book title just screams cheesy to me and reminds me of all those stupid step-brother books on the market. Then I’d see the author’s name and say “oh yeah! K Webster wrote it, I’m all in!”
I absolutely loved this novella! I admire when an author can write a short story and the tale doesn’t feel rushed, which is the biggest complaint I have with novellas. Few authors know how to do it well. K. Webster proves it can be done without the story suffering.
Yes, the story is wholly inappropriate, but if you know K. Webster, you know that such conventionalities don’t phase her. It’s dark, but not as dark as some of her other books. I found the whole story intriguing and read it in one sitting.
